Bernice’s Educational School Age Children Center is completing its eleventh full year of operation.  The center has been serving youth since it’s relocation to 2516 West 4th Street, Wilmington, Delaware (19805). Bernice’s Educational School Age Center (BESAC) is now poised for growth to better serve existing clientele and to fully utilize our facility.

Venture Description

Bernice’s Educational School Age Center is a licensed center that provides child care, academic and enrichment services to children from 6 weeks of age to 18 years of age and to their parents.  The Center is a safe, caring, fun and positive learning environment for children and working parents.

Venture Organization

Bernice’s Educational School Age Center is a non-profit organization owned and operated by Ms. Bernice Thomas.  It is licensed by the Department of Services for Children, Youth and Their Families Staffing consist of certified teachers, interns and volunteers.

Venture Market

BESAC primarily serves the City of Wilmington’s economically disadvantaged children from 6 weeks old to 18 years old and their parents.  The families we market to are single-parent and two parent income families.  The parents of our children tend to be under 30, with multiple children and have low incomes.  Most participate in the Purchase of Care Program. The vast majority are of African American descent.

BESAC will target economically disadvantaged Hispanic families in 2010.

Venture Operations

BESAC is in operation from Monday through Friday from 6:30 AM to 5:30PM for Infant/Child Care and before and after school tutoring.  At 6:00PM the center provides training and workshops middle/high school students and parents.  The summer camp operates from June to August   Ms. Bernice Thomas is the owner and oversees all operations.

 Venture Financing

Initial financing was provided by the City of Wilmington, Delaware in the amount of $5,000.00.  This investment was used to purchase supplies and materials.  A small amount was use to provide school bus transportation to transport children to and from our program.
